"Bia Hoi" - Sidewalk bars home to the 7 beers for $1 deal
"Bia Hoi Bathroom" - You get what you pay for..
After some lousy weather, but genuine fun in Nha Trang, it`s back to Saigon. This time, we learned from our previous bus trip and decided to take the train. Traveling with a group of 4, we had our own private cabin, each with our own beds, and plenty of room to store baggage. Rural Vietnam is incredibly beautiful. Rice patties and small villages scatter across a rolling green carpet of field and forest. A light rain added to the mystique as blankets of fog crept into the valleys. Probably worth spending a few days in if you are the adventurous type. We stayed on the train and stuck with our continuing euchre game.
We departed the train in Saigon to the open arms of our friend Lin (Kevin Cooke`s wife, as we called her). She even took the night off work (told her boss she was hungover, possibly true) so she could hang out with us on our last night in town. She, as always, seemed ready to party, but an early flight (6am to Hong Kong) kept us at bay. We ate at an outdoor market, Kevin and Joe had their favorite beefsteak, Mark abstained from beer, and Lin got fried rice and squish. When we ate dinner with Lin earlier in the week, she picked out this seafood soup with all kinds of different fish and squid and such. Whenever we asked her what a certain piece was, she would say, `oh, that`s just squish` in her cute Vietnamese accent. She likea the squish!
All in all, Lin and Be were great people and super friendly to us in Saigon and Nha Trang. It felt like they were looking after us and genuinely wanted to show us a good time in Vietnam. If you are interested in Vietnam, I`ll get in touch with them and the My Long`s will show you the good life.
Short(er) post, on to Hong Kong!
